Fashion Etiquette And Manners
I think one of the biggest etiquette slights that our church and generation is guilty of is chewing gum. Have you ever looked around the church and seen a bunch of people chomping away at their gum? It is terrible to watch! And trust me, if they look bad chewing gum, so do you. Not to mention peo

Say No to Chewing Gum in Church and Office!
By Pet Peeve
Really gum is not even all that great. It gets rid of your bad breath for a minute or two, but then you just continue chewing on it and it picks up all the nasty crap in your mouth and then what? Then you are just chewing on your own bad breath.
MINTS ARE THE ANSWER.
Pop one little mint in your mouth and your breath will be a 100 times fresher and your fresh breath will last longer! No horrendous chomping jaw motion and no chewing on bad breath nastiness; it is a win-win for everyone. So please, do us all a favor and buy yourself a pack of mints. It will give you instant lady like appeal…Just trust me on this.
Illusion Dressing
BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU WEAR
By Pet Peeve
Going back to the topic of shirts, I would like to talk about illusion dressing. Women seem to think that they can wear anything they want under their see-through tops; but that is just it! They are see-through! I can see through the shirt to what you have on underneath, please dress accordingly! What we do not always realize is the image we are presenting to others. Although sheer tops are cute and can be worn modestly, they can also be worn in a way that is alluring and suggestive. Be especially careful with lace tops. Crocheted or lace tops are still see-through, make sure that you wear an appropriate shirt underneath so that your top is not provocative.
Also, be especially careful when wearing linen button up blouses; particularly light-colored shirts! Wear something underneath! If you are wearing a shirt and can see the waist line of your pants through it; you need to put a shirt on underneath! If your skin is showing through, put
something on. This is important because being able to see through your shirt is suggestive and gives a wrong impression. Remember, just because you are “covered” doesn’t mean it’s modest. A see through shirt with a low-cut top underneath is not modest. Lace tops that allow someone to get a peek of your chest underneath can be very distracting to guys, even more so than if you were to wear just a low top because it tempts the imagination. Please help our brothers out and wear things that will help them to walk in purity, not cause them to stumble. Also remember to pay close attention to the image you are conveying. What you see as “cute” and “trendy” may be a distraction to the men around you.
In short, treat a sheer, lace, crocheted top or blouse the same as you would any other shirt; make sure that your chest and torso are completely covered. Be aware of what everyone else can see beneath your shirt; you may be showing more than you know. And seriously, I have noticed that people seem to buy underwear that are a size too small for them…Your underwear should never dig into your rear, not only does it look terrible -but! - that must be uncomfortable! Please ladies! Like I have stated before; BUY THE RIGHT SIZE! I think it is so wrong to have your panties showing, not only because it just looks sloppy but also out of respect for others. Especially our fellow brothers in Christ. Men are visually stimulated. So what do you think happens when you walk by and they can completely tell what kind of undies you are wearing? They should never be put in a position where your clothes are a distraction to them, or cause them to stumble. And although this may not seem like a big issue, it is. I know you do not have to look at your rear, but the rest of us do. So please, help us all out and turn around once or twice before you leave the house and make sure that your lines are not showing.
Tackling T-shirts
HOW LOW IS TOO LOW?
By Pet Peeve
Specifically, modesty when it comes to keeping the most beautiful parts of our bodies hidden for our husband’s eyes alone. There are just some things that no one but our husbands should ever see; and your chest is one of them. I know we have all seen it before; women walking around with their goods on display. But I’m specifically talking about cleavage; rear ends will be a whole other subject to conquer. It is important not only for our own self-esteem, but especially for the men around us that we keep ourselves covered, and are constantly aware of what we are wearing. Endeavor not to cause men to stumble because of your cloth is too revealing; what a tragic way to draw attention to yourself! Model yourself-worth by respecting yourself enough to know that you do not have to put yourself on display to be attractive. But there are always questions; what is too low? Is this appropriate? How do I make a low cut shirt modest? Is strapless okay? How about spaghetti straps?
I’m going to preface this whole discussion with one major point; Do not ever show your chest or your bra. It doesn’t matter if you are bending over or sitting, others should never be able to see down your shirt. There is nothing more painful to a brother than having to look away because a beautiful young woman is exposing herself consciously or unconsciously. So that is where we start. I can already hear the objection; ‘but I can’t help it when I bend over!’ or ‘but I’m just too chesty to be able to cover up!’ To the first I say bogus. You are absolutely aware of yourself
and what your body/cloth is doing. If you are even the least bit worried about someone being able to see down your shirt, subtly place your hand over the top of your shirt to hold it to yourself as you bend over. Or if you are trying to tell me that you are just “too big” to cover them, I do not believe you. We often give excuses for things we know are wrong; but you never have to defend something that you do not know deep down is wrong. You can cover up; it all depends on how far you are willing to go to remain classy and modest.
So, what’s too low? Too low is anytime others have to see any amount of cleavage. A well-fitting shirt should sit lightly against your chest; it should never gap out in any way! If you can see down your shirt, WE can see down your shirt! If you are worried about the appropriateness of a shirt, then it is probably not appropriate. If you have to second guess yourself, you probably should not be wearing it in the first place. There is a very simple fix to all of this, anyone ever heard of a cami (aka a camisole)? Or a tank top? Both are thin undershirts that you can put under anything to make sure you are covered completely. They come in all different colors and most have adjustable straps so you can tighten them to make sure they cover everything. Cami’s are a super practical way to make sure everything you wear is appropriate and also cute. They are perfect for layering and add another bit of color to your outfit. Cami’s should be fundamental to every girl’s wardrobe, especially women who are well endowed. When it comes to strapless and spaghetti straps that is something you mainly have to work out for yourself. The Bible is very clear that God calls us to be modest, to be holy as He is holy. But there are certain things He just does not cover; strapless would be one of them. I have a personal opinion about the matter, but I would rather let you form your own. Ask God about it, He really does care, just be willing to take His advice. Just remember the question is not ‘how far can I go and still be considered modest?’ That’s a dangerous question to be asking. Don’t dance with that line; stay well away from it!
Our main goal should be to remain classy and covered no matter what we are wearing. Just to be clear, I am NOT endorsing turtle necks or saying you have to wear a t-shirt to be modest! I think there are plenty of stylish options for young women that honor God and the men around us. A simple way to check what you are wearing as a Christian lady is by where people look when they are talking to you. If the person you are talking to keeps glancing down, it is really not a good sign. Both men and women get distracted by low cut shirts; let us help everyone out by being aware of what we wear.
Leggings are NOT Pants!!!
By Pet Peeve
Ladies, really? Do we even need to discuss this one?
If we should, let us go there. Leggings were never meant to be pants. They are meant to be worn like tights, would you ever wear a pair of black tights and a t-shirt? I don’t think so.
My stance on leggings hinges mainly on two things;
1) I have NEVER seen a woman who looks good wearing leggings as pants.
2) It is just WRONG! (End of story)
They are so tight they could be a second skin, and who wants to see the jiggle? Oh yeah, you know what I mean. We have all seen a chic, strutting her stuff in a pair of painted on leggings, and as she walks by, you can not only see every inch of her leg, but the jiggle! Come on! Even the skinniest little girls jiggle; it is not attractive-do not go there! And besides, let us leave something to the imagination! It is honestly not at all attractive to see a young woman in such tight pants, and trust me; guys think the same thing (well at least the guys you want to be attracting anyhow). Some things are just best kept between you and your future husband…And a view of your rear end is one of them.
