Pastor William Kumuyi

Promoting Holiness and the Power of God’s Word

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi was born on June 6, 1941, into a strict Christian Anglican home in Erin-Ijesa, Osun State, Nigeria. During his secondary school years, he lost interest in the church because his principal taught the doctrine of atheism. However, he became born again on April 5, 1963, when a group of singers and preachers from a gospel church were granted permission to visit his school, through which he came to understand the gospel message. Kumuyi was influenced by John Wesley, Charles Finney, and Charles Spurgeon. In the early 1970s, he became a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Lagos, and in 1973, he began a Bible study group with 15 students who came to him for Bible training. This training led to the foundation of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, which later became the Deeper Life Bible Church in 1982, with its headquarters located in Lagos and an auditorium that can seat up to 30,000 worshipers. It is reported that in 1975, Pastor Kumuyi was expelled from the Apostolic Faith Church for preaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but this did not hinder him. As of 2005, the Deeper Life Christian Ministry was said to have over 800,000 affiliates.

Pastor Kumuyi began conducting the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) in April 2021, starting in Abuja and spreading across major states in Nigeria. It has since expanded internationally, reaching locations across the Global South, including India, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, and Vanuatu. It is reported that the GCK has attracted over five million physical attendees since its inception in 2021, with more than 700,000 people committing to Christ during these events. Pastor Kumuyi has impacted many lives by teaching members and ministers to live Christ-like lives and to

pray ceaselessly. The church is also strong in house fellowship programmes as a means of encouraging

spiritual growth. The church places strong emphasis on righteousness and holiness.
